Water is one of the most crucial ecological factors for all living organisms on Earth. Plants, like all vegetation, cannot survive without water. Water is considered an essential component of a plant's body, making up 90% of the protoplasm's weight, and it serves as the medium for dissolving all mineral and organic substances within the plant. Water is regarded as the first link in the long nutritional chain of life and living organisms.
Currently, the quality of agricultural irrigation water in the Mekong Delta (MD) is declining due to several reasons:
- First, the development of industrial zones, urban areas, and residential communities.
- Second, the impact of agricultural production activities.
- Third, the effects of climate change, particularly the increasing frequency and intensity of saltwater intrusion during the dry season, which reduces the availability of freshwater for agricultural and domestic use.
This deterioration in water quality diminishes its usability, negatively affecting agricultural product quality, human health, and causing soil degradation while wasting water resources. Therefore, any shortage or pollution of the Mekong River water source poses a significant threat to the socio-economic development of the Mekong Delta. Consequently, the exploitation, management, and development of water-saving irrigation solutions in the region are of great importance to the nation’s overall development.
Magnetic Field Technology

A magnetic field system has been designed using permanent magnets with a magnetic strength of 3000 Gauss and dimensions (LxWxH) = 65x25x10 mm. A total of 20 magnets are installed along both sides of a stainless steel Φ42 pipe (10 magnets per side), arranged with alternating north and south poles to maximize effectiveness while preventing mutual attraction and magnetic field disruption. This magnetic device is entirely designed and manufactured in Vietnam, at only one-third the cost of similar-capacity devices from the U.S. or Japan.
Electrolysis Technology
Electrochemical technology is applied to treat various water sources such as groundwater, surface water, domestic, and industrial wastewater. In this case, it enhances electron exchange in the water, helping eliminate harmful substances like chlorine and heavy metals. Meanwhile, beneficial elements such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, and sodium are retained in ionized form, making them more bioavailable and easier for plants to absorb.
Magnetic Quantum Mechanics Technology
The application of magnetic quantum mechanics technology in agricultural irrigation aims to create magnetized water to improve saline-contaminated water sources. It helps plants utilize this water more effectively and improves nutrient absorption from the soil.
Benefits of applying quantum magnetic technology in irrigation water treatment include:
- Increased solubility of nutrients, making them more accessible to plants.
- Enhanced nutrient exchange in the soil.
- Improved plant resistance to drought and flooding; stronger stems; better root development; larger fruits with higher quality and yield; extended post-harvest shelf life.
- For ornamental flowers: larger blooms, longer-lasting flowers, and more vibrant colors.
- Flexible, adaptable designs suitable for various types of gardens and vegetable plots.
- Compact systems that are easy to operate and maintain.
Effectiveness of Ionized Water in Agriculture
Ionized water is safe, highly compatible, and relatively simple to apply. It is also environmentally friendly and has low operating costs. Ionized irrigation water has unique physical and chemical characteristics that help improve water quality and conserve water. It supports plant water and nutrient absorption, promoting faster growth, higher yields, and improved quality. It also helps rehabilitate the soil and balance the soil ecosystem, making it a valuable tool in agriculture.
Additionally, the use of magnetic fields has shown beneficial effects on seed germination, plant growth and development, ripening, and crop yields.
Research and Application of Magnetized Irrigation Water in Vietnam
In 2017, Mr. Hồ Quốc Hùng from the Department of Science and Technology of Can Tho researched and integrated magnetic field technology into a device for creating agricultural ionized water.
This became a second-place winner in the 10th Can Tho City Technical Innovation Contest (2018–2019) for agricultural ion water generation devices.
It was also awarded the “Creative Labor” certificate by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor under Decision No. 1452/QĐ-TLĐ dated October 13, 2020.
The Agricultural Ion Water Generator was honored in the Vietnam Technology Golden List of 2021.
